Depression / Anxiety
Life is short and often difficult. When challenges outweigh the beauty and joy of life, it can be very hard to greet a new day with any enthusiasm. You have too much to offer and too much to enjoy in this lifetime: just enduring the day is really not enough.
Of course, we have to look for any imbalances in brain chemistry that can be affecting your mood and general vitality. But your brain doesn’t exist in isolation and is far more dependent on the state of your overall health than you might suspect.
Among the factors to consider are:
- Gut health, especially leaky gut
- Unbalanced blood sugar
- Auto-immunity
- Thyroid and adrenal gland dysfunction
- Impaired or over-burdened detoxification pathways
My Approach
My first concern is always for your safety and ability to function. If you are currently taking any mood-stabilizing medication, you should continue to do so. That enables you to “do what must be done” and gives us the opportunity to optimize your basic physiology.
The first step is to build a better foundation for your general health with progressive dietary and lifestyle changes. Testing can give us specific targets for supplementation that will improve your brain function. Many patients also benefit from brain re-training. This can be movement-based or use other brain training technologies. My preference is always for simple, powerful tools that give you the ability to self-regulate.
